El lunes 8 de marzo a las 23:00 horas, National Geographic estrena la película documental Frida.Viva la Vida. Dirigida por Giovanni Troilo y producida por Ballandi Arts y Nexo Digital, Frida.Viva la Vida es un viaje revelador en busca de Frida al corazón de México con entrevistas exclusivas, documentos de la época, reconstrucciones y un repaso por sus obras, incluidos los autorretratos más famosos que incluyen el que está con Diego Rivera (1931), Las dos Fridas (1939), La columna rota (1944) y El venado herido (1946). A través de su arte, Frida Kahlo cuenta su historia con gran intensidad: su dolor físico, sus abortos espontáneos, la tragedia del amor y la traición y su compromiso político. Pero ¿quién era realmente Frida Kahlo?
Frida contrae poliomielitis a los seis años de edad, es víctima de un accidente automovilístico a los dieciocho y vive con fuertes dolores que padece hasta su muerte. Sin embargo, gracias a su arte y un estilo inconfundible, Kahlo influye tanto en artistas plásticos como en músicos y diseñadores. Su importancia como figura llega a exceder ampliamente su prominencia como artista, apoyada en la intensidad y determinación con la que encara una vida de sufrimiento.

La actriz y directora Asia Argento acompaña a los espectadores mientras descubren las dos caras de la pintora, siguiendo un común denominador que son las propias palabras de Frida: sus cartas, diarios y confesiones. Esta producción revela cómo su arte tiene raíces en la pintura tradicional del siglo XIX, en los retablos mexicanos y sus compañeros de vida, desde Diego Rivera hasta Trotsky. A través de la iconografía precolombina, Frida también explora el verdadero significado de los opuestos: dolor y placer, oscuridad y luz, la luna y el sol, la vida en la muerte y la muerte en la vida.
Frida.Viva la vida muestra fotografías, ropa y otros objetos personales de Frida guardados en el Museo Frida Kahlo que normalmente no se encuentran en exposición pública; así como impresiones originales de las fotografías tomadas por Graciela Iturbide durante la apertura del baño de Frida en 2004. Asimismo, el documentalcombina relatos y contribuciones de especialistas y artistas: Hilda Trujillo, fue directora del Museo Frida Kahlo –uno de los tres museos más visitados en la Ciudad de México, ubicado en la Casa Azul, que fue el hogar de la pintora– y del Museo Anahuacalli; la fotógrafa Cristina Kahlo, sobrina nieta de Frida; la fotógrafa mexicana Graciela Iturbide; el mampostero y albañil Alfredo Vilchis; James Oles, profesor de arte del Wellesley College y curador asistente de arte latinoamericano en el Davis Museum; Carlos Phillips, director general del Museo Frida Kahlo, el Museo Diego Rivera-Anahuacalli y el Museo Dolores Olmedo; y la bailarina Laura Vargas.
